Here’s a illustration I recently did for the wonderful Dana Pritts at 5280 magazine about overbearing fitness junkies. I’ve included the process below from the rough thumbnails to finished illustration. I had originally hoped to do my first concept idea with the cult family runners, but am pleased with the way this turned out.

Final illustration colored & tweaked digitally.

Ink, graphite, marker & paint on bond paper.

Finalized sketch. As you can see in the final, there were changes made along the way.

PHL TO NYP ILLUSTRATION

“PHL to NYP” mixed media on paper + digital 2012. I’ve been itching to do an illustration of groups of people not only for people drawing practice but for color separations and placement so the figures don’t look blobbed together. I’ve been bouncing back n’ forth quite a bit lately to NYC so I figured this would be a nice challenge to depict. I like to illustrate things a bit out of the ordinary if you can’t tell by now, hence the mutant like figures awaiting their Amtrak chariot. I was inspired by Jerry Lazare’s piece (below) for the color palette.

Final 2 page spread & spots for October 2012 issue of Boys’ Life magazine. The story illustrates a father and 3 kids (scouts) camping telling horrifying ghost stories that I, the illustrator was given the challenge to make these stories seem playful & funny….given my nature I think I did a good job making it Disney!

Happy Valentines Day! As much as I dread it every year, this year was a good one. Nice meal and time spent with my lady & our new boxer puppy. Here’s a card I made for her “Puppy Love”, awwwwwww so cute.

My first painting for 2012, “The Protector”. Only took me a week to paint, even with taking the puppy out for pee breaks every half hour. Thats a 2012 resolution of mine…work faster! Below is a little bit of the process.

Here’s an illustration I did from the infamous classic movie “A Christmas Story”, a movie that is hard to miss this time a year & a movie that has brought many laughs to my family during the Christmas season since I can remember….so I’m paying tribute! Hope everyone enjoys their Christmas and that it’s a safe one, see you in the new year!

Be sure to check out the Beyond Eden Art Fair this Saturday 10/1 as there will be a handful of my favorite galleries showcasing great art / artists. One of the galleries is Spoke Art, hosting it’s final stop to the epic “Quentin vs. Coen” show. My piece, below, is from the Quentin masterpiece “Inglorious Basterds”. The character known as Sgt. Donny Donowitz or better known by the Nazi soldiers as “The Bear Jew” cracks open the skulls of his Nazi enemies with a louisville slugger. The movie is a favorite of mine and was happy I had the chance to pay homage by painting this piece.

GALLERY1988 / DIRT RAG COVER

Heres some recent projects I finished up recently. The painting below “Cindy Slithers” was painted for a Garbage Pail Kids themed group show at Gallery1988 in Melrose, CA. The show opens to the public tomorrow, Friday 9/2 at 7:00. The Hundreds clothing will be selling their new line of Garbage Pail Kids t shirts at the show so be sure to check it out, you won’t want to miss this one!

Also I finished this cover illustration for Dirt Rag Magazine. Pretty straight forward concept but had a fun time working on it with the awesome art director Matt Kaspryk. Should hit news stands in another week or two.

PEE WEE HERMAN TRIBUTE SHOW

My piece is titled “Mr. Breakfast” and is done in acrylic paint with a little prisma colored pencil here and there for certain effects.
